Holiday entertaining ideas and tips

Holiday entertaining ideas and tips | Gaby Leveille | real estate Burlington Halton Hamilton Milton Grimsby | French speaking‘Tis the season… for holiday parties and events! As wonderful as socializing with coworkers, friends and family can be, if you are the one hosting, it can be a stressful and expensive affair. The season is meant to be a joyous one, so here are some tips to help you throw a party without breaking a sweat!

Keep the decorations simple. Don’t spend a ton of cash buying holiday themed décor – choose a few tasteful items that will lend itself well to both Christmas and New Year’s. Instead of a ton of red and green items that scream Christmas, go with white, gold or silver and keep it to a minimum. These colours are elegant and add a modern touch.

Use candles to get that cozy holiday ambiance. The glow of candles always sets the right mood for a party at this time of year. If you love the scented kind, go with a festive scent like cranberry or pine, but go easy on how many are lit. It can be nauseating to guests if the scent is really strong, especially near food. Ideally, choose unscented candles and place a few in the areas people are gathered in.

Ask for help. Most friends and family will call and ask what they can bring or if help is needed. Say yes! This is also a party for you to enjoy. Before, during and after, there’s always something to do – whether it’s decorating or setting the table, cleaning up throughout the party or afterward, so make sure you do have help.

Make sure all guests have a safe ride home or a place to crash in your own home. Try to find out if there will be anyone staying beforehand so that you can get the rooms ready and have extra blankets and pillows ready.
